Moments in Algoma: Anna McCrea

Anna McCrea served as Principal of McFadden Public School on Albert Street West from 1914 to 1942. These decades saw waves of new immigrants to Sault Ste. Marie and the rapid growth of a neighbourhood of first time Canadians struggling to adapt beyond barriers of language, customs and poverty. Miss McCrea’s tireless commitment to creating a bond of trust between school and community influenced the direction of the lives of hundreds of children throughout her teaching career. Its impact cannot be overemphasized. Students went on to excel in all walks of life, including sports, and the ripple effect on those generations and their descendants continues today and into the future.
